If you’re new to Pinterest or ready to hand that side of your marketing plan off to someone else, a Pinterest Manager may just be the person you need.
But what does a Pinterest Manager do exactly?
Well, the honest answer is, it depends on how they set up their business. But there are things you should expect them to do to grow and maintain your Pinterest account. Let’s check them out.
A Pinterest Manager’s Tasks
Depending on where you are in your Pinterest journey, there are any number of things a Pinterest Manager can do for you. Including:
Set up an account - the perfect starting point if you’re brand new to Pinterest! This could include creating a brand spanking new account for you. Or converting your current personal account to a business account and cleaning it up a little.
Schedule and curate content - this is the heart and soul of Pinterest. Scheduling your own content so that you don’t have to continually remember to manually pin it one of the keys to making Pinterest work for your business. Pinterest wants you to primarily share your own content (since that’s what your audience is looking for) but sharing is caring so repinning a few pins from other people is also important.
Design pins - this may vary a little based on your Pinterest manager but they may be able to design pins for you as well. Keep in mind that design isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so some Pinterest managers may prefer you to have a designer (who knows your brand inside and out) to create the pins, then they take it from there to get them out into the Pinterest world.
Pinterest SEO and keywords for board and pin descriptions - if scheduling content is the heart and soul of Pinterest, then SEO keywords are the meat and potatoes that feed the heart and soul. WHAT? 😂 What I mean is, scheduling all the pins in the world isn’t going to help you if they aren’t SEO keyword optimized. So your Pinterest manager should take time to research the keywords that are best for your niche and use them in your pin titles and descriptions.
Group boards and Tailwind tribes - there are some mixed reviews on how to use either or both of these tools. But your Pinterest manager will be able to navigate this with you. Being in Pinterest group boards and Tailwind Tribes can boost your visibility on Pinterest but the key is to get into groups and tribes that really fit your niche so your pins are shared. This is also where curating other peoples content comes in. Most groups and tribes have a 1:1 share ratio to be fair to everyone.
Promote pins - promoting pins can be a great way to get more eyes on your content. Your Pinterest manager will be able to tell you based on the analytics, which pins are doing well and may be worth promoting.
Tracking analytics - without analytics you have no idea if your strategy is working. It’s very important that your Pinterest manager knows how to read analytics (Pinterest and Google) and can relay that information to you so you know how things are going. They should also be able to give you pointers on where to make adjustments to continue to improve traffic and conversions.
Additional Tasks
Blog management - this task is up to each individual Pinterest manager. Some won’t mind taking on additional tasks, others stick specifically to Pinterest. Blog management and formatting posts fits so closely with Pinterest (given that most content you share on Pinterest are blog posts) that it’s not uncommon for a Pinterest manager to manage this as well. This also goes along with the Google analytics and tracking where traffic is coming from and what’s converting.
Coach and train - some Pinterest managers also offer training for you or your team. So, for example, you may hire the manager to set up and optimize your account. Depending on your agreement, they may set up Tailwind with a month or so worth of pins. Then train your or your team to take it over from there. Or, you could hire them on retainer to continue to manage everything for you!
When Should You Hire a Pinterest Manager
Now that you know what a Pinterest manager can do for you, you may be wondering when exactly you should hire one.
Truth is, that’s completely up to you.
I cover this in more depth here, but some key things to keep in mind are:
You’re using Pinterest but not seeing results
You don’t have a strategy in place
You need to focus on other things
You can’t handle (or don’t want to) another platform
You’re looking for a more passive way to market that doesn’t take up tons of time
Only you’ll know for sure if now is the right time to hire a Pinterest manager. But most offer a free consultation call so you can chat with them 1:1 for a few minutes to discuss if it’s the next right move for your business.
