We all know and love Pinterest for the gem of a tool it is. Hop on there and browse lovely pictures of cakes, dinners, party ideas, clothes, superheroes… I could go on. It’s a fun place to mindlessly scroll (on occasion) without all the drama that sometimes comes with Facebook and Instagram.

All the in-authentic engaging. Did I comment on her post? Did I like her last 3 pictures? Did she follow me back?!

It’s time to stop all that, sister.

First of all. engaging on IG and/or Facebook (wherever your clients are!) is SUPER important. But do it authentically. Be you. And do it with more than just clients and sales in mind. Mmm-kay?

Good. Now that we got that out of the way, let’s chat about how you can get started with Pinterest today.

One: It's a Search Engine.

So your profile, board descriptions, and pin descriptions need to be written using the keywords your clients search for on Pinterest.

Not sure what those are? Well then it’s time for a little research!

First thing you want to do is head over to Pinterest. You’ll see the search box at the top of the screen (assuming you already have a Pinterest account. If not, you’ll need to create one!)

Type a search word or phrase in that box. Something you think your ideal clients are searching for as it relates to what you do.

Now the magic happens. When you hit enter, you’ll see pins related to your search, naturally. But just under the search box, you’ll also see a bunch of colorful boxes with other related words and phrases.

These are the words and phrases people search for.

So for example in this image, I searched for SEO. I got a bunch of related pins. But also a bunch of related words like for beginners, tips, and keywords.

Which means people search for the keyword “SEO for beginners”, “SEO tips”, and “SEO keywords”.

What do you do with this information?

You use those keywords in your pin, profile, and board descriptions!

As you consistently do that, your pins will show in more and more search results.

Two: Start Pinning Your Content

Now, let's chat about what you need to pin.

Content. I mean duh right? 😂

But for real. You need to pin content that sends Pinterest scrollers to your website.

Like what?

Like blogs. Podcasts. Free offers. Videos. Anything you've got that shows you as an expert in what you do.

The goal here is to grab the attention of someone looking for what you do. They search. They see your pin. They like what it says or what it offers. They click it. They save it. But most importantly, they go to your website.

Where they can learn allllllll about beautiful you and what you do!

Make sense? Good! Now, head to your website and see what content you already have that's ready to be pinned! I promise you have some! 😉

Three: Automate It

Now, you know what you need to do (make your pins, boards, and profile searchable).

You have content to do it with (blogs, podcasts, freebies, and videos).

Your burning question is probably, “Do I really have to spend all day on Pinterest pinning all the things to my account? This was supposed to be easier than Instagram.”

No. You don’t.

There’s a magical little app called Tailwind that will automate the whole thing for you. You create your pin image in something like Canva, upload it to Pinterest with a thought out, keyword friendly description, and then use Tailwind to pin it to multiple boards throughout the day.

You can also create the pin directly in Tailwind and schedule it to go out to your boards. How you choose to do it is totally up to you!

This is a blog for another day, but you also want to pin the new pin to some Tailwind tribes. This helps make it visible to other people to start sharing it too!

And that’s it! The basics you need to get started with Pinterest!
