That time of year is here again! When everyone is is in planning mode. Whether it’s holiday shopping, planning Christmas dinner, or all the things you want to launch in 2020. A fresh start is coming in January so now’s the time to start thinking about it!

Which is why I wanted to talk to you this week specifically about Pinterest and SEO for your business. If you’re not using them already, now is the time. And if you have a Pinterest and SEO strategy already, now is the perfect time to evaluate your strategies to make sure they are working for you in the upcoming year.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

If you’re thinking ‘SEO? What the hell are you talking about?” then I’m SUPER glad you’re here!

SEO refers to search engine optimization. It’s the art (I mean, it kind of is an art!) of setting up your website to work for you.

Google, in particular, has many, many things it looks for when choosing how to rank websites for searches. Truth is, we don’t know ALL of the things it looks for. But you can absolutely put some key things in place so Google can start to prioritize your content over all the other noise on the web.

You want to make sure all of your blog posts are optimized for SEO. You also want to take some steps to make sure your website as a whole is SEO ready. It’s important to keep in mind that SEO is not a once and done thing. You consistently need to keep up with it and make sure any new pages or blog posts you add are also optimized.

And the more content you add to your site, the more Google keeps seeing fresh and updated content when it crawls your website, the more your rank in search results will improve.

Pinterest for Business

Now I’m sure you use Pinterest for planning meals and birthday party ideas. But it’s also a crucial tool for online business.

Pinterest is a search engine similar to Google except it’s visual. Meaning all the results you’ll get from Pinterest will have some sort of image or video to go with them… Even more of an opportunity to catch your ideal client’s attention!

Pinterest content can also be shown in Google search results so these two strategies work really well together!

You’ll want to start by making sure your Pinterest account is optimized so it shows up in search results. Because just like with Google, it doesn’t do anyone any good if your content doesn’t show up when they’re looking for it.

Once you have a killer optimized profile and some amazing content to share, you need to set up a badass strategy to make sure your content stays in front of people. I use this app to help me with my strategy so I don’t have to spend all day every day pinning all the pins.

Why You Need These Strategies in 2020

Now on to the real reason you’re here. Why do you need to focus on these strategies in 2020.

Truth is, you’ll be left behind if you don’t.

Harsh, I know.

But the thing is, social media is changing. I know you’ve noticed it. It’s harder and harder to get your incredible content seen on Facebook, if it gets seen at all.

Instagram is right behind it.

The reality is only about 3% of your audience sees your content on any given platform.

They want you to pay to play. Pay for ads to get your content seen.

With Google and Pinterest (who yes, both also have ad options), people are searching for you. You aren’t reliant solely on the algorithm of whatever social media platform you’re using to show your content to people.

Let’s be honest, social media reach is probably only going to get worse. It’s a great way to interact and build relationships with your audience. But it is not the key to getting in front of new people.

You want to meet people where they are searching for what you’ve got. That’s Google and Pinterest. Google gets roughly 2 trillion searches PER DAY. And Pinterest has an average of 2 billion searches per month.

And those people are searching for specific things. They know what they want, what they’re looking for and they’re ready to buy. They are looking for someone who has what they need. They’re looking for you.

When your content is optimized for the words and phrases they are using, it’ll show up for them.

If you ask me, that’s ten times better than posting endlessly on social media and hoping your content gets seen.

But one major thing to keep in mind when using either of these strategies is that they don’t work overnight. It takes time for Pinterest and Google to recognize that you’re adding quality content to the web. So you need to start planning out your strategy and putting it into action NOW.

But What Do I Need to Do?

SEO

  • Start by optimizing your website. This will give Google an overview of what kind of information you provide there so your website as a whole can start ranking for keyword searches.

  • Next, optimize your blog posts. If you haven’t been doing this all along, it could take some time to go back through them. And if you have a lot of posts, I would focus on the ones that already bring you the most traffic. This will help beef up the traffic you’re already getting.

PINTEREST

  • For Pinterest, you want to start by optimizing your profile. This is key because it will help your full profile show up in search results for the keywords you use.

  • Next, you want to make sure your boards and pins are using keywords too. This could take some time if you have a lot of time. And truth is if your pins have been shared, you’ll never get to all of them.

  • Focus first on your boards. Clean up the titles and use keywords. Don’t use cutesy titles. Use titles that describe the boards for what they are.

  • Also, make sure your board descriptions explain what the board is about using searchable keywords. (are you seeing a pattern here?)

  • Make sure any new pins you add going forward have keyword-optimized titles and descriptions.

  • Use this refresh opportunity to add new pins for your past blog posts. This puts new content out into the Pinterest world that sends people back to your website.

There you have it! Why you need Pinterest and SEO strategies going into 2020 and how to get started! So what are you waiting for?

xx,
Delana
