How I Schedule a Week of Social Media in an Hour

Let’s face it. Social media is a HUGE part of our businesses. Whether we like it or not, it’s there. And it’s crucial. You don’t need to be on ALL platforms, in fact it’s probably better that you’re not. But you need to be where your audience is.

That being said, how do you keep from falling into the rabbit hole that is social media and losing your entire week there? (hey, it can happen so easily. No judgement!)

I wanted to share how I schedule a week of social media for Twitter and Facebook in about an hour a week. Since I started using this method, I have been way more consistent and its starting to show! 

Twitter is the big one since the feed moves so freaking fast. It’s typically recommended to tweet around 10 times a day. Of course, this depends on your biz and your audience but that’s the number I shoot for.

 Remember, you want the 10 tweets a day to be a mixture of your content, other people's content (because sharing is caring!), and personal stuff. These posts don't have to be super personal but you want people to get to know you. Take your dog to the dog park? Pop out to your local coffee shop to work? Share it! 

A MAJOR thing that helps me with Twitter is banking up retweets in Buffer. I usually do this when I’m in line at the grocery store or waiting at the doctor’s office. Sometimes when I'm just watching TV. Chances are you’re on Twitter anyway so send some of those tweets to Buffer (or your scheduler of choice) to hold for you for later!

I also use this time to interact with some people I follow. You're not a robot and neither are they! I spend maybe 15-20 minutes adding retweets to Buffer and interacting with other tweets.

Every week on Monday and Wednesday I sit down to schedule out the posts I've stored and add my own content to the mix. I’ve created a cheat sheet in Notes (Mac lover here!) of my content complete with links to my blogs, landing pages, etc. I copy and paste the ones I want to schedule into Buffer, add the associated photo and BAM! Done! Once those are added, I drag and drop to rearrange them and mix them in with the retweeted ones added earlier. I’ll also take a couple of minutes to add comments to some of of the retweets so they aren’t all just straight retweets.

This whole process is maybe about 30 minutes each day. Because I've spent a few extra minutes here and there through the week curating other content I want to share, I don't have to spend much if any time these mornings finding content. 

Once Twitter is done, Facebook takes maybe 10 minutes. I only post twice a day to my Facebook page so its typically a piece of my own content and one of someone else's.  

On Mondays I usually schedule Thursday - Saturday and on Wednesdays I schedule Sun - Wednesday. This way I’m always a few days ahead and I only have to think about it on those two days! 

When I'm about and about going through my days, I'll pop in a random personal pic or comment real-time. I will usually schedule to Instagram for this (even though IG is not one of my main social media outlets for my biz) and auto schedule it to Facebook and Twitter from there. Three outlets hit at once! 

Let me tell you, when I first started I was all over the place with social media. Since I've fallen into this routine, its so much easier to be consistent. And consistency and value are what counts!
