My Favorite App: REMINDERS

I LOVE this app. Seriously. It might be my favorite app to use with my business. I’m sure you are thinking I’m a little nuts right now. Why am I writing a blog post dedicated to such a simple app?

Twice, very recently, I’ve had conversations about organizing tasks and preferred apps and both times I learned that while there are some amazing apps out there to suit everyone’s tastes, Reminders works best for me right now. So I want to share why with you! (and because the ladies I spoke with were unaware of its aweseomeness)

Reminders is fantastic because I can organize my projects by client, by task, and, my favorite feature, set a due date and time. A more robust organizer I looked into lacked that last feature. I couldn’t believe it!

So let me break down for you exactly how I use this amazingly simple, amazingly powerful app.

To start, I have a separate list for each client/project and day of the week. Currently I have twelve lists. Sounds daunting but it’s perfection.

From there, I list each task. Simple enough, right? The magic happens after clicking the little (i) next to the task. This is where I can enter the date and time a task is due. For my clients, I have a lot of tasks that repeat on a weekly basis, so I enter that as well. There is an option to set priority, which ranks the tasks on a list. I tend to rank by due dates, but the priority feature is great as well.

There is also an option to add notes to each task. This is incredibly handy for recurring Facebook or Twitter posts! Set a reminder for when you need to post and save your content in the notes section. Everything is there for you so you don’t miss that important post!

So. Incredibly. Simple.

Let’s recap:

  • I have a list for each client and each day of the week. (Because there’s only one of these apps and no way to differentiate between work and personal, I also have a shopping list! It works for everything!)

  • I list each task on its appropriate list. Client work is on their corresponding list and work for my business is broken down on each daily list. All tasks have a due date and are set as to whether or not they are recurring.

  • Any necessary notes are added into the notes section for each task. Add any required links to this section too! (I find this extremely handy when it comes to posting on promo threads. Set a reminder for the day the thread posts and put your copy in the notes section to copy/paste at the right time! Easy peasy!)

Now, here is what may be the best part: this app is free and pre-loaded on iOS devices and with OS X. That means, it is synced across your devices with iCloud. So you can work on one computer, organize your Reminders, and be alerted on your iPhone or iPad anywhere you are. Amazing!

And, the alerts stay visible on your lock screen or computer until you acknowledge them. The app gives the option to check off the task when it’s done, snooze the task to be reminded again in a few minutes, in an hour, or tomorrow. How do they know how long I’m going to procrastinate? 😉

Reminders really is a simple app with a TON of power. Give it a try and tell me if it works for you! Or what apps do you prefer for organization?
