Why Templates are a Game Changer

Creating email templates in ConvertKit not only saves time but also ensures that your emails are consistent, professional, and totally on-brand. Whether you’re sending newsletters, updates, or launching a new product, a well-designed template makes it all so much easier.

Let’s Build Your Template!

  • Head to ConvertKit and click on “Send” then “Email Templates.” This is where the magic happens. You’ll see several starting templates you can use, but I want to highlight that only the classic templates can be set as a default. That means they’ll automatically apply to every new email you create. Super handy, right?

  • Pick a Starting Point: Choose a template that fits your vibe. My go-to is the “Platform” template. It’s clean, has a nice header, and it’s easy to customize. But keep in mind—if you want this to be your default template, you need to choose a “classic” template.

  • Customize, Customize, Customize! Start by swapping out the logo. Just click on the image, hit “replace,” and select your brand’s logo. Adjust the size, link it to your website, and voila—you’re branded!

  • Add Your Personal Touch: Use text blocks to add headers and body text that match your brand voice. Don’t forget about buttons! Set a default button color that stands out and leads your readers exactly where you want them to go.

  • Pay Attention to the Details: Add some flair by adjusting margins, padding, and even adding borders or changing corner shapes. You can make each section look distinct by playing with background colors, and if you’re feeling adventurous, dive into the advanced settings for custom CSS tweak.

Pro Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Set Up a Footer: Make sure your footer includes all the necessary info—address, unsubscribe link, and preferences link. This ensures your email is compliant and won’t get stuck in spam filters.

  • Avoid Starting from Scratch: Once you’ve set up your basic template, keep it as empty as possible. This way, you can quickly adjust it for specific emails without having to start over.
